It is with a lot of excitement that we announce that Sansa´s eye surgery went very well. We still need to wait for her full recovery. For now, she is under antibiotic eye drops treatment for 20 days.
Sansa is a spider monkey (Ateles geoffroyi) that was brought to the center as a baby. After a few weeks we noticed that she was clumsier than other monkeys of her age. She was diagnosed with cataracts.
Sansa surgery was planned for the beginning of the year but due to the COVID-19 pandemic it was postponed. With the center closed for visitors, the struggle to continue receiving animals with no income coming while dealing with all the expenses increased. Despite the situation, we wanted to give Sansa the surgery she had waited for so long so we devised a new campaign and thanks to everyone that reached out to us we took Sansa to San José on september 23rd.
We are now taking care of her recovery, hopefully soon she will discover the world with her new eyes.
