Hospital Rehabilitation Intership

Workplace: JRC veterinary clinic

Minimum stay: 1 month. Interview for acceptance in the program

Professional skills: Students of Veterinary, veterinarian technician Biology or another formation in wildlife handling.

The work in the Veterinary Hospital needs people who assist the animals and help the veterinary team during the different daily tasks. Through the "Veterinary assistant volunteering program" you can improve your skills, work directly with animals (hands-on experience) within a professional team while helping to save wild animals in need.

Volunteer tasks include, but are not limited to

Assistance to the new animal arrivals.
Assistance to the vet team in surgeries.
Assistance to the vet team in revisions.
Inpatient care of animals.
Cleaning and feeding of hospitalized animals.
Participation in the animal’s rehabilitation and relaease process.

Conditions

Trial period: 15 days.
English is compulsory. Some level of Spanish is appreciated, but it is not compulsory.
Your country’s TB test certificate or TB vaccination certificate.
International health insurance.
Minimum age is 18.
Professional skills: veterinary assistants, students of the latest university courses in health sciences.

Schedule

The program always starts on Mondays at 11:00 am at the Jaguar Rescue Center, in Playa Chiquita.

Working Hours:

You will spend your first week as a standard volunteer at the JRC. After that, you will be introduced to the clinic.

On a normal schedule, each volunteer has 2 days off per week. Working days are usually 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., but may vary.. Normal lunch breaks are 1 hour in total.

Rules

The entire center is a non-smoking area.
The use of alcohol, drugs or other substances in the workplace is prohibited.

Jaguar Inn

We offer accommodation for our volunteers located next to the Rescue Center. Jaguar Inn is a beautiful new hostel designed for your comfort and convenience.

Bright exterior rooms with garden views and 4 single beds, quality mattresses, sheets, towels, large capacity lockers, individual reading lights, and plugs to charge your electronic devices. All of them are mixed dorms, ensuite with hot showers, and include mosquito nets.

We also offer a private room with its own kitchen. This room has a different price and is subject to availability—feel free to ask if you're interested!

In the common area (El Rancho), you can relax and share experiences with your fellow travelers from all over the world while sitting on the comfortable sofas. You can prepare your meals in the fully equipped kitchen, which includes cutlery and utensils, a stove, an oven, and microwaves. There are several supermarkets close by, and you can store your food and drinks in the refrigerators.

Of course, the WiFi internet connection is included. For your added security, we have a night guard.
